Jonas & Anna Jonason

Jonas Jonason and Anna Swenson were married on September 5, 1908, in Morris, Illinois. Following their marriage, they came to the Rising community in Kottke Valley Township, McHenry County, North Dakota, staying the winter with Halvor Johnson, a brother of Jonas. Jonas and Anna were both born in Norway.

In the spring of 1909, Jonas and Anna Jonason moved across the road from Halvor Johnson's. Their first son, John, was born while they were living at that place. Later, they became parents of another son, Martin, and two daughters, Ellen and Lenora.

Jonas and Anna lived in the Rising-Norwich Community until they retired in 1944. Most of the time in the Rising Community, they farmed on SW Section 28-156-80. Together with other new settlers, they organized the Rising Lutheran Church, and were charter members. Jonas often assumed the role of lay pastor, and also taught Norwegian Church school.

Upon retirement, the Jonasons moved to Minot, where Jonas died on August 4, 1954, and Anna passed away December 1, 1959. They are both buried in the Rising Lutheran Cemetery.
