Ernest & Minnie Hills

Ernest Clair Hills was born in LuVerne, Iowa on August 1, 1882. He came to Granville in 1904, making a claim on a homestead in Egg Creek Township, McHenry County, North Dakota.

Minnie Miller was born on September 11, 1887 at Grey Eagle, Minnesota. She traveled with her family by covered wagon from Minnesota to Tennessee, back to Minnesota, living for a while in South Dakota, before coming to Granville, North Dakota in 1905. Her father, Chris Miller, opened a photo shop there.

Ernest and Minnie were married in Granville on June 19, 1907, making their home in Egg Creek Township for thirty-eight years before moving to Minot.

They had six children, who included Clifford, Glen, Floyd, Lyle, Esther (Mrs. Hilbert Rittenbach), and Mildred (Mrs. Orville Wrolstad). They had sixteen grandchildren.

Minnie was a member of the Alfalfa Meade Homemaker Club, and Ernest served several terms on the Egg Creek Township board, and on the Egg Creek Township School board.

Ernest and Minnie were married for fifty-five years when Ernest passed away.
